School Counselor Spotlight: Nancy Castro-Nieto Retires

By Liliana Silva, COSA Sweetwater Union High School District Almost a year ago, on July 17, 2019, Liz Murray, a teacher, motivational speaker and advocate for students experiencing homelessness was a keynote speaker for Sweetwater Union High School District’s all staff professional development. That day, she said, “It’s not a question of will you or won’t you make a difference. It’s what kind of difference will you make.” Throughout her 33 years as a counselor of Sweetwater Union High School District, Nancy Castro Nieto has made positive, life-changing differences for students, parents, staff and community. Nancy believes that no work is too great or too small; that all things are accomplished as we speak less and do more and each person has something to contribute; and together, anything is possible. Forging Futures Together: High School and Community College Collaborating to Empower Student Success

Today, SUHSD high schools and Southwestern Community College collaborated on building a better bridge to address the transition gap for students. The importance of seamless dual enrollment programs, shared resources, and career programs create a pathway for academic success. This partnership enriches education, enhances career readiness, and fosters a stronger, more integrated local educational community.
