Letter to Teachers

April 18, 2014
Dear Teachers,
Our Counseling unit (SCGA) is asking for your support! We are in the midst of negotiations and as of yesterday, Thursday, April 17, 2014, this is our standing with the district. It may sound familiar to all of you.
Our bargaining session with the district began at 8:40am and ended at 8:50am.
Contrary to what Dr. Brand suggested to our SCGA President on Monday, the district had no new proposal. Instead they proposed for counselors a LESS in a salary increase than all other bargaining units, the SAME caseload, and the same benefits hard cap as all other units.
Ms. Sandra Huezo gave the message that this is a generous proposal for our unit and we should be thankful they are offering the same in benefits as all other units. “We walked away with disgust!”
Our district believes that teacher will not support their union brothers and sisters, SCGA.  Please help us, SCGA, prove him wrong and show him that united we stand with our associations, SCGA & SEA!
The counselors will be rallying at the next Board Meeting on Monday, April 21st at 4:30pm. We would appreciate it if you would demonstrate your support by attending this rally. Also, if you would like to speak on our behalf of what we do, we would be most grateful.
We are all sharing this same experience and treatment by our District!
